A fairly typical Mk1 Mazda MX-5 sill repair - what looked like a bit of bubbling on the outside quickly revealed the extent of the corrosion hiding underneath once we got the panels off. Patching over it was never going to be the right solution. The rotten sections were cut away completely and replaced with fresh steel, carefully shaped and welded in to recreate the original sill structure rather than just box over what was left. Once everything was dressed back, protected, and primed, the repair sat flush and virtually invisible - and more importantly, it was solid again. Rust never sleeps on these cars, especially around the sills and jacking points, but taking the time to cut it all out and rebuild it properly gives the owner real confidence the repair will last, rather than just hiding the problem until the next MOT comes round.
